Wellbeing Wednesday - The joy of walking/hiking.

Walking/hiking is an engaging and relaxing activity. As we invite our bodies and minds to slow down, we also find opportunities to connect with the natural world around us. Whenever I catch myself overthinking about a situation or a 'problem' - a long walk in the woods is my answer, and helps me ground myself. Moving my body deliberately, taking the time to focus on my breathing, on what I’m seeing, hearing and smelling: a nature walk lends itself to mindfulness.

Outdoor activities have been my favourites since I was a child; riding my bike, walking in the forest or running on a sandy beach and camping. What I like the most about them all, is the fact they are quite minimalist activities (maybe not camping, I agree)! They are also low-impact activities from an ecological perspective. You clearly do not need much.

We are lucky to have access to many green spaces in the UK. I live surrounded by parks, large nature reserves, woodlands and peaceful gardens. I will share a few here and three interesting links:

1- Coombe Wood Gardens (South Croydon)

2- Kelsey Park (Beckenham)

3- Croham Hurst Woods (South Croydon)

4- Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve (Selsdon)

5- Marden Park (Caterham)
